Camping Fun!

Late night stories around the campfire... Man or Beast?

Right up the canyon from Cedar Ridge!

The rainclouds moving in....

Our fearless campers.

This fish was 5 feet long by the time he came back to campus!

Enjoying discussions around the fire.

Don't eat it! Please!

Nice Catch!

Kissing the 'Cod-Father'

I caught this fish with my bare hands. Seriously.

Our happy campers.

Grillin' and Chillin'

Waiting for the fish to bite.

More gorgeous views!

Doing the laundry.

Nice, huh?

Emery hanging out with the students.

Finding the perfect spot.

Lunch Break!

The boys appreciated the great camp food!
Kevin and Emery (two of our awesome staff) took some of the boys on a camping trip last weekend. They went fishing, told ghost stories and hiked around the wilderness. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed getting away form campus for the weekend. Kevin and Emery did a great job of preparing for the trip and having activities for the students. It is good to see the boys reconnecting with their wilderness experiences (many of these students went to wilderness therapy programs before coming to Cedar Ridge Academy).

Brace Yourself!

Gold and Purple braces. A true Lakers fan!
Everyone has their own way of celebrating victories!

Co-ed Dining Tables!

High level students hanging out.
I know he's talking to me... but all I want is that
soup... yummy. Soup is good.
The chicken crossed the road? Really? That's hillarious!

Recently we started to allow the students to eat at co-ed tables (700 level and above students). Now, you would think that they would be jumping at the chance to take advantage of the increased communication. But that's not what happened. They rarely ask to sit at co-ed tables and no longer put energy into talking about how they really want to talk to the opposite gender. Go figure. I literally had to extend personal invitations to the students to sit together today. Perhaps they will gain courage in the future...

Dugout

I think the pictures tell a pretty good story. This is what happens when our families meet yours. The little girl is Sean's and my daughter, Dylan.

Chattin' with the Potato

Ever wonder what its like on our end of the speakerphone?
Now you know... we are actually playing with Mr. Potato Head.

Breakfast?

Breakfast was awesome. So awesome, I'm blogging about it.
Yes, he can do dishes!

Thumbs up kitchen!
IHop or Cedar Ridge... you be the judge.
The high level boys home always gets to the cafeteria about 20 minutes before everyone else...
with enough time to get 2nds and 3rds. Sometimes breakfast deserves its own update.

No, he's not going to karate chop the llama, he
just happened to be in karate before I took him
out to hang with Chieftan.

Mr. Popular, with the llamas.

Look Paco, an airplane!

Say 'please' first!
Trust is finally earned.
This is just a smattering of photos from hanging out with students in the llama enclosure. The llamas are still pretty nervous and afraid, but are starting to come around more and more every day. Paco tends to be very scared and acts out (by spitting and posturing) and the students have been able to have a lot of empathy for that kind of behavior.
